As the COVID-19 pandemic has gripped the country, there has been a substantial reduction in non-essential medical treatment and preventative care, including the disease management and medication adherence among older adults. To help this population better manage their health and improve their overall wellbeing, Alight Solutions, a leader in benefits, payroll and cloud solutions, is now offering to make its healthcare navigation support available for purchase by pre-65 and post-65 retirees as part of their elections during annual enrollment.

More than half of older adults, many of whom have chronic conditions, have had their healthcare services disrupted by COVID-19, according to NORC at the University of Chicago. With a healthcare system further complicated by the pandemic, employers can provide year-round education, navigation and problem-resolution services. Retirees are connected with Alight Health Pros® who can help them understand their benefit plans and Medicare coverage; choose highly rated providers; coordinate appointments, procedures and rehab; find lower costs for medications; and assist with billing and claim disputes.

“Alight can reduce retiree anxiety and frustration by providing dedicated concierge support so they can make simpler, smarter healthcare choices,” said Adam Johnson, vice president of healthcare navigation at Alight. “Our Health Pros are empathetic, expert communicators who are knowledgeable about retiree and Medicare policy coverage and trained to support employees during all stages of their lives.”

Alight’s engagement with retirees is also designed to improve plan utilization resulting in better outcomes and lower costs, which will benefit both retirees and plan sponsors. This is an important consideration due to expected pandemic-related cost pressures.
