Frequently Asked Questions

You have questions about a bill or statement

If you receive an Explanation of Benefits (EOB) statement from an insurance carrier or a billing statement from a physician’s office or hospital that you do not understand, get help by contacting Advocacy Services and having an expert look into your situation. In order to reach a quicker resolution, you may also want to get a basic explanation from your health plan as well.

You need to locate a provider in your plan

There are a number of ways you can find a physician or specialist who participates in your health plan network. You can contact an Advocate, visit your insurance carrier’s website, or call the insurance carrier’s customer service department

When you make an appointment with a medical professional, remember that it’s always a good idea to verify that he or she participates in your health plan network.

You don’t understand a diagnosis

Understanding health explanations, diagnoses, and treatments can be very difficult. That’s why it’s always a good idea to ask your physician questions about things you don’t understand. Still, there are things you may need to research and questions you may not think to ask until after you’ve left the office.

That’s where Advocacy Services comes in. If you received an explanation of a diagnosis and don’t fully understand it, contact an Advocate to help you.

You need a second opinion

If you or someone you love is facing a major medical procedure and is not confident in a diagnosis, it’s always a good idea to get a second opinion from a respected source. Contact Advocacy Services to have an expert look into your situation. An Advocate can provide you with information on the latest treatment options, and help to arrange a second opinion from a physician in your network.

You don’t understand how your benefits work

Contact Advocacy Services when available plan information is not helpful and you need help understanding how your benefits work.

You want to prepare for a visit with your health care provider

Contact Advocacy Services to speak with a clinician who can help you understand what to expect during the appointment, prepare questions to ask your health care provider, and follow up after the appointment to ensure you understand your diagnosis and treatment options.

You have a question about medication options, treatment options, or tests

Contact Advocacy Services to discuss your medication and treatment options, test results, diagnosis, and any other health-related questions with a clinician (typically a Registered Nurse) who has access to information on the most up-to-date medical education and guidance.
